Stolen #72

Hey what's up people,

I'm sad to but I'm going on a hiatus, and putting this on hold. I been busy work and life, and the band. So we are going out with a bang. This week I interview Stolen. sick Drum and bass band from IL.            They one band recording or they a 3 piece band live.                                                                                Enjoy this interview

My name is Juan Angel Perez. I play in Stolen, a Power Violence band from Aurora, IL.

I’m doing ok for the most part. Not much to complain about at the moment.

I got into punk in high school when I was like 15 (I’m 22 currently). A guy I was tryin to start a band with said I should listen to Descendents and Black Flag and then it just snowballed from there.

Stolen was an idea I was spitballing with a friend, it was originally supposed to be a Dystopia worship type band. Eventually it turned into a pv project and we got a buddy to do guitar but then both of em didn’t commit like I was asking plus drama bullshit started happening so I kicked them, I already knew drums so I picked up bass to continue the band as a one man project.

I write and perform all the music you hear on recordings. I got a few homies who handle bass and backing vocals whenever I need em. Sometimes Stolen performs as a 2 piece or a 3 piece depending on who can come with. I handle drums and main vocals since a drummer is hard to come by.

Me and Pedro had been talking about doing a split for a while before we actually both had time to do it. We had caught on to each other and had mutual appreciation for what we were doing. Us both being into corridos and being from Michoacán is what helped make the album cover you see for our split.

Definitely got more releases on the way, only definite one in the works currently is a split with Bimbos from Rhode Island. I plan to at least drop 1 album at some point.

Shoutouts I wanna give are to all the great people in Dipt, Hollowed Worship, Lacking, Oklahoma Ryder Truck, Party Rice, Flux Capacitor, Bimbos, Influencer, Ropeman and Madrugado.

Hummingbird of Death #71

what's up everyone I was off for a minute. After playing with these guys I had to interview them for sure. Hummingbird Of Death was a sick band from Boise, Idaho which they play Fastcore, Sludge with a little bit of a twist. Here it is the interview of Hummingbird Of Death enjoy.

State your name and what band do you play in??

This is Mike from Hummingbird Of Death.

How are you doing?
Fine! Just finished a fun tour and now I'm just trying to get my life back in order.

How did you get into punk??
As a teen I was listening to Slayer, which unbeknownst to me were influenced by a lot of punk bands. Then in high school I had one punk rock friend who made me a mixtape with NOFX, MxPx and more. That led to Propagandhi, Satanic Surfers and Napalm Death, and then I started reading Maximumrocknroll, which opened a whole world of underground music for me.

How did Hummingbird of Death start as a band?
After I discovered No Comment, I realized that was exactly the style of music I wanted to play. At the time I was in a band with my brother Joe (current HOD guitarist) that was pretty grindy but didn't necessarily want to sound like that. So I thought I'd
start another band or at least a side project. I composed the first HOD songs in 2004, and then in 2005 my friend Justin and I recorded our first demo tape.

What was the line up?
On the demo it's just me and Justin (me on drums and Justin on guitar and bass). Once the demo got such a positive response, we thought we should try to be a real band and start playing out. Our buddy Brian volunteered to play bass right away, and that became our original lineup through 2010.

What are some of the influences you guys have??
In addition to the bands already mentioned, I'll add Infest, Lack Of Interest, My Own Lies, Morbid Angel and more.

How did you guys get the name Hummingbird of Death?
It was just one of those serendipitous moments where a name just popped into my head and I thought it would make a cool band name.

What is the line up now??
I still play the drums, I mentioned Joe who joined originally as a bassist and then switched to guitar, and Dustin is our current bassist. The three of us have played together since 2018.

What's the best show or tour you been on ??
Well, I'd say Maryland Deathfest was the biggest show. Opening for bands like Napalm Death and DRI represent dreams come true. But I'll happily take a packed basement show just as quickly.

How did you get in Sidetracked??
You should probably ask Jay why he asked me to join. But he knew I could do the job and that I followed the band closely. We live 8 hours apart, but I'm happy to help out as time allows.

Any coming releases or projects??
We have a 5-song EP which should come out in 2023. Next we plan to record for a couple splits, and then we'll start writing a new album.

Any shout you want to give???
Just a big thanks to anyone who supports what we do after so many years. We don't plan to stop anytime soon!
