So this interview I'm interviewing one of the bands up north from the Bay Area. When you think of the bay you think of Godstomper, DosxAmigos, World Peace and Heckdorlan..Im interviewing the drummer of Heckdorlan….So here we go hope you guys enjoy Tone:Hey whats up state your name,what do you do in the band and how long have you guys been a band??   Cody:sup homie im cody and i play drums and do some vocals in heckdorlan. We have been playing shows for a little over a year now. 

Tone: What are your guys influences???

Cody: Our influences are Depraved, cave state, Whitney houston, gang green, lightning bolt, ordstro, obacha, shooting spree, family vacation, crossed out, no 

comment, daddys hands, surf nazis must die, shits, hunches, Sordo, concussive, leech, Jungbluth, Jeromes Dream, Boys Life, Deterioration, World Peace, The Body, Gloam, His Hero is Gone, Adolescents, Minor Threat, Void, Wasted Youth, Saetia, Pissed Jeans, JFA, Maths, Orchid, Ceremony, Iron Lung, Body Void, hospitals, coachwhips

So who's in the band??? How did you guys come up with the name?? Heckdorlan is a two piece with my homie taylor on bass. Hes known me since i was 15. I first heard the word heckdorlan/sketchdorlan from my friends growing up. It was a word to describe something sketchy or wild. Also king of the hill homie.

How did u get into punk??? What was your 1st punk show???

I got into punk when i first moved to santa cruz. I had no privacy because i shared a room with my mom and sister. I remember i was the new kid in 5th grade and i came home in tears because i was unfamiliar with everything. My grandma had tv land on and there was the monkees playing steppin stone. Seeing mickey yell im not your steppin stone connected with me. I wanted to continue that feeling. I started a band with my homie blair that played guitar. She knew hella kids that skated that eventually became good friends to me. My first show was at the scotts valley skatepark. We actually convinced a local skateshop named cali style to have us be the band to play while they promoted their store. We were a cover band that mostly played the ramones and misfits. The first song i ever played live was hybrid moments. Terrifying as hell to lead in with drums for the first song.

Tone: What's your favorite show??? Cody:Favorite show we played is a toss up between our vs set with wacko at dannys house and our vs set with godstomper in a shed. Both sets had folks moving which was cool to see but also gotta do improv and play to each others songs. Real homie shit when you sharing the floor with kids coming at ya in every which way. 

Tone: You guys have anything releasing???

Cody: Got some splits in the works just held up at the moment due to covid. Im a sick lad so ive been isolating. Once we get things moving a split with sordo and dicksucker should be in the works. We will also be putting out our split with godstomper sometime this year.

Tone: Who is in Weaponized and how long has it been a band???

Weaponized has been around since August of 2018 and has been playing shows with this line up since June of 2019.

Tone: How did you fellas get into punk???

Jason:

The strongest and earliest memories I have are from around 6 years old going on car rides with my parents. They would always have on Dead Kennedy's, Agent Orange, Vandals and many other bands.  I liked the vibe, how unique they sounded and the rawness of there music not to mention the humor in the Vandals songs.

James:

I got into punk/metal in middle school from hanging out with my brothers friends and ever since then that's all I've listened to.

Eddie:

I was into metal and a lot of my friends from high school were into punk and took me to a TSOL show at the Observatory for my first show ever and I've loved punk ever since then.

Leo:

I got into punk/metal in the late 90's early 2000's back in the day I was into rap and oldies.

Johnny:

That's a dam good question it was so long ago. I would have to say it was from hearing Suicidal, DI, MDC from friends back in Junior High wait for it.....in 1988 yeah I'm vintage.

Tone: that's very cool. I got into punk pretty late in high school, but still enjoy the classics 

Tone: What was your guys 1st you guys went to or played?

Jason:

The first show I've ever been to was Overkill, Nile and Vader with my older sister.

James:

My first show playing was with a few high school friends in some back yard in East Los.

Leo:

The first show I played was in South Gate across the street from my pad at a hall it was a local show with punk, metal and ska bands in 2001 and I've been on the kit for over 20 years.

Johnny:

The first show I've ever been to was D.I. at some shit hole back in the late 80's, great fucking time

Favorite show question:

Jason:

I would have to say The Whiskyagogo a very historic place and awesome crowd.

James:

My favorite show was at The Whiskyagogo I never thought in my life that our band would be able to showcase our music to people on that stage.

Eddie:

My favorite was a Halloween house party, we played for a crowd that probably wouldn't listened to music like ours but by the end of the night they were rockin' out harder then some of the people at local venues.

Leo:

My favorite was at the Whisky in Hollywood it was our first time on a big stage and we all came through 100 percent and set that place on fire.

Tone: What's your guys influences?:

Johnny:

My favorite show was at The Rainbow in Hollywood when had our demo release party and Louichi Mayorga OG from Suicidal Tendencies jumped on stage with us for a few songs

Square Up #13

Here is another cool band that I interview... weird story is that Square Up was going to play at my birthday show but due to some issues and we had to move it to a brewery in Ventura and they couldn't play but there still cool people support there band.. check them hopefully will do a show or split or something with them well enjoy the interview with Square Up...

Tone: How did you guys get into punk???
Allan:
I got into punk because I first got into ska and gradually got into punk rock and then heavier music soon followed.

Chavez:
I got into punk kinda late to the game. When I was growing up the only kind of non thrash band I was into were Beowulf, D.R.I., Suicidal Tendencies and the Misfits. It wasn't until I started getting into hardore in like '14 that I was getting into hardcore punk and working my way backwards.

Jess:

My mom grew up in Venice beach listening to punk and metal, dabbling in singing in bands so of course she introduced me to Suicidal Tendencies, and a few other punk bands she digged like Dead Kennedy’s, Bad Brains, Minutemen, Cromags, GBH, The Ramones, etc. Some California taste right there. From there I went on to really dig Agnostic Front, DRI, Negative Approach, Minor Threat, Poison Idea, Jerry’s Kids, A Global Threat and the heavier variety that really got me excited to play music.

Tone: How did Allan get into SxUx?
Allan:
I got in due to their previous drummer departing from the band in the middle of writing a new album.

Chavez:
We were in a band before and had jammed a couple times when I started having issues with my previous drummer. We only had rehearsed twice with Allan when I knew he was going to be the perfect fit.

Jess:

Allan is the band chef, and we’re some hungry mother fuckers so there’s that. Also, we made him do some push ups for initiation purposes. Now he’s stuck with us. 🤷‍♀️

Tone: How did the band get started and what band were you in before?
Allan:
SxUx has always been the brainchild of our singer/bassist Charlie. He started this project years ago, I couldn't give you the exact time. The list of previous bands I've been in is endless, I'm a drummer. Come on.

Chavez:
What he said, and started in 2016

Tone: What are SxUx influences?
Allan:
My style consists of alot of hardcore punk and because of the speed off some songs even powerviolence. Lately been trying to incorporate some more old school death and thrash metal.

Chavez:
My main influence is thrash metal and hardcore punk. To specify, Joel Grind and most if not ALL of his projects. Most of the music I write is thrash metal with a hardcore punk essence. I enjoy the crossover feel of the group and the influence of our grind/power violence contemporaries. Though after several discussions, we definitely will be leaning more toward our thrash roots....Longer songs? Maybe.

Jess:

Allan has the crust and punk influences that give us umph while Chavez brings some Razor- like thrash mixed with punk like DRI influences and I’m all over the place but I really like death and grind. I try to create a Vio-lence meets Pestilence blend. I like that we all can bring something different to the table and make it cohesive.

Tone: What was your 1st show??
Allan:
My first real experience at a "show" was in 8th grade when a buddy took me to a local ska/punk show at some rodeo type venue. Needless to say as soon as I saw this kind of underground culture I wanted to be a part of it.

Chavez:
2004. South Gate. Allan Theater.
Lot of ska, lot of drunk punx, lot of fights.

Jess:

It’s hard to remember my first show, pretty sure I was too lit off some 40’s but if I’m not mistaken it was a $1 show in Inglewood. Don’t remember a damn thing other than 2 fights and a raid haha. My first real concert was Roger Waters: the Wall when I was 13 at the Honda center.

Tone: What was ur favorite show you guys played???
Allan:
Favorite show that I've played with SxUx just might be my first gig. Backyard. South LA. Punk and Ska bands. Beers. Homies. Hadn't played a backyard gig in years so that felt awesome and we kicked ass that night.

Chavez:
Allan's first show was pretty fucking solid, and we rolled like 20 deep. My favorite is a tie: C.Y. Fest and D.R.I. Hirax, Beowulf, Intent, and SxUx. Both of those we had amazing crowd responses and adrenaline running wild.

Jess:

That’s a tough one. There’s so many shows we played I had fun at. I’d have to say CY fest because it was a packed fest, all my homies were there and the crowd really had a blast while we played so my energy was through the roof.

Hello everyone, I been off for a while but here is an interview with a band from Lancanster,Ca we played with when it was my birthday there known as LxBxR… and pretty soon we are going to do a split with them that's going to be sick.. will be release sometime this year after this quarantine is over.. So enjoy the interview with :LxBxR.M:How did you guys get LxBxRx start and What band did you play before you played in LxBxRx????  Eddie: Me and Jon played in a band called Maldición before LBR and everyone else wasn't as serious as me and John want to be we played a hand full of shows a few fest but never recorded 

We jammed with a few other alterations after that doing more like melodic Crust stuff 

And then I had the idea to do more of a hard core punk band style like drop dead 

So I asked Jon if he wanted to do it and he was into it so we started LBR. Maldición 

The perverse atomic wedgy extreme glorification of violence And a few others but never really got any thing going. Jon:

Eddie and I also had a couple songs written with another dude that never really took off. And in high school I was in skate punk band called the sewer rats. 

Cuz we used to climb into the sewers to skate.

 Jon: Lxbxr started, I believe, around 2010. Eddie and I had played in a couple other bands that had broken up and we wanted to continue playing music. What does LxBxR stand for?? Eddie: Well in the beginning it was Little Bunny Rabbit 

I'm from the desert and there is lots of bunny's lol I just like them 

And thought everyone tries the name their band something brutal or scary or nasty I thought let the music do the talking and have a cute name  

Like I asked what PLF stood for  and someone told me pretty little flower and I was like hahaha that's Genius so at one point I believe it and I just thought wow what a good idea.  

Now we twist it to whatever we think is going to work with where we are at that point or with the message we're trying to put out. Jon:

Eddie thought it would be cool to name a Brutal sounding band after something really cute, and I agreed. 

Now it constantly changes as a way to convey whatever idea/message we're trying to express. 

On the "self care" 7in we're currently working on it stands for a little bit of relief. All the songs are themed around anxiety, depression, personal struggles, and the positive/negative, or harmful, ways of coping. 

M: How did you guys get into punk or Pv or hxc & what was your 1st show??? Jon:I got into punk rock in middle school. I began with the Ramones, the clash, Sex Pistols, rancid...I fell in love with the energy and the style. That led to my exposure to hardcore, crust, anarcho, oi, power violence, and so on...(all of which I love) & First show was the buzzcocks, and the distillers. (My dad took me and it was awesome!) 

 Eddie:I think I got into a punk like most kids do I was super into like surfing and skateboarding and BMX and all that shit and all the pros were like into punk rock and hard-core or metal and underground rap shit like that I just made sense And I moved to the antelope Valley in the early 90s and I think it snowballed at that point Lived in like a trailer park there's a lot of like racism and Nazi shit going on and I was just like super not into it just made me get more into punk bands that felt the same way about that kind of stuff or were like fuck Nazis  

That was like 5-7 grade pre internet in every house lol Back then it took work to find out about good shit 

Not just NOFX and DK Like 8-9 grade I got into powerviolence,crust,hard core punk,grind core..

M: What are you guys influences???? Eddie: I think me and Jon have slightly different influences on the band and that's what makes stuff switch up so much and why it's really cool in my opinion and really fun

I would say more like drop dead fuck on the beach orchid consume maybe a little bit larm and seeing red 

At least for my half of the noise lol..I think the early PV bands would be like Cap casualties God stopper or drop dead if you consider that power violence I guess I always thought it was just like hard-core or grind when I was young I just wanted it fast or powerful PV,grind,HC,crust as long as it was punk I loved it.. M: Eddie how did you get into drumming??? Eddie: When I was a kid my mom's friend gave me and my brother a drum set and I've just always been all caveman out and want to beat the shit out of stuff with sticks so it just worked out for me...Lol the funny thing with me is that I got frusted and said fuck I'm going to play drums and I somewhat learned on my own  and bought a cb drum set for 100 on craigslist  and started practicing..Eddie: Playing the drums is harder then it looks man.  M: Jon how did you get into to playing guitar?? I started playing guitar in middle school. As soon as I got into punk rock I wanted to play in a band. I picked guitar because I thought it was coolest. Lol 

I was wrong though...drums are way cooler. Lol

M: Was LxBxR always a 2 piece???? Eddie:We were in the very beginning just me and Jon a two-piece and then we added a bass player we had one dude that played with us name was been super cool guy really good musician he's on our first demo

Still see him at shows every once in a while.

M: Culpa started as a 2 piece then a couple shows we were a 3 piece and there was a couple we were Drum and bass and after my kid was one, I just thought it would be best if we were just a 2 piece.

Eddie: That crazy that you guys switched it up a few times as well. 2 people is easier less people to show up on time lol

M: Is there any special shows you guys played?? Jon: for me every show is special. I'm really grateful anytime we get the opportunity to play in front of people. M: Any shootout you guys want to give??? 

Eddie: Maybe just a shout out to anybody who has a T-shirt patch button CD any of the bands we ever played with and the people that ever seen us play all the people that have booked us shows
