Leech #35

Yo, What's up everyone this week. I interview one of the sickest bands from Japan. I know Japan has a different scene from the States. This week I interview the vox of Leech he explains how the scene is in Japan and talks a little about his bands. Enjoy here is the interview with Leech.                                                                                                                                                                                                         State your name and what bands do you play for??                                                                                   My name is Nakamura and playing Leech

How did you get into punk??? How is the scene in Japan??

I was listening to Hi-Standard and Going Steady. It wasn't until I discovered Bad Religion and Dead Kennedys that I became aware of punk.
I was interested in the name of the band first.
I scream a lot about society.
Japan now has policies that are close to neoliberalism. Money is certainly important. It's the power of capital that connected me to you on Instagram. But too much capitalism makes people unhappy.

The Japanese powerviolence scene that I know of is roughly around 2010, and in the 2000s there were some great bands like Slight Slappers, Exclaim, Fuck On The Beach, Shikabane, Senseless Apocalypse and many more.
During Culpa Mia's time in Japan, Powerviolence was a bit of a downer, but recently there have been some interesting bands on the scene.
Masspress, Soiled Hate, Gasket, Blow Out, MürMür, etc.
I've known guys like Fight It Out and Moribund Punishment for a while now, and they're always great!

Otaku culture has been around for a long time, but it wasn't popularized until around 2000.
In the early 1990s, anime fans were persecuted in Japan.
Many bands use anime in their artwork.
Japan has a lot of good quality anime and games!
how long was Culpa Mia a band
I don't remember much, but I think I was active around 2010-2013.

What were the influences in Culpa Mia
I was influenced by Gasp, Dystopia, No Le$$, Plutocracy, and many more Powerviolence and Sludge.

how did you get the name Culpa Mia
Despise you!

who was in Culpa Mia
Tokita(Vo),Polpo(Ba),Pinepun(Dr) and me. Tokita is currently the vocalist of Coffins.

How did Leech get started
I hadn't played for a while after Culpa Mia stopped, but after seeing Endon live and being inspired, I decided to start the band again.
Leech has been around since 2017.

How did you get the name??
Full Blown A.I.D.S.

Whos in the band???
Now we are Nemoto(Gt), Kamata(Ba), Ota(Dr) and myself.
Ota also plays drums in DISHxRAG and Nemoto plays guitar in Enema.

any releases coming out soon
We have a Venus EP that we recorded in 2019 that will be released on tape and CD. And we have a release planned for next year. Stay tuned for the announcement!
Leech is influenced by many bands.
No Le$$, Plutocracy, California Love, Water Torture , Concussive, Stress Ghetto, Peep, Heckdorlan, Warth, Hong Kong Fuck You, Sordo, Godstomper and many more.
Oh, I personally love Siege!
It's a tough world, but listening to good bands is calming and exciting.
We hope you enjoy our sound too.

Any shoutout you want to give??
